Bitter Cold

November chills are here again
The Cold started way back when
The soul was tired, worn and bleak
Week after endless week
Heat became my new best friend
A sword against the cold will rend
A lasting grey, a snowy day
The sun is held at bay

Everything has slowed right down
The Christmas lights are on in Town
The best thing about this wintry state
Is that 25th of December date

The bitter cold is here to stay
And leads to darker, longer days
This is just a temporary phase

December hearts are full of cheer
As it comes to end of another year
When festive days and nights mix well
Pinecones, spices and ginger smells
Roaring fires and ice-cold days
Festive tipples and yuletide ways
Mornings and evenings dark and dull
All led by the Christmas pull

Everything smells string of spice
The Winter lawn has a layer of ice
The creatures wild all find a way
To live on for a Springtime day
