Christmas Visitor

In the heart of the country, amid all the cheer
Lay a little white puppy, alone and in fear
His nose was so cold and his chances were few
He had no owner to love and adore and run to

The kennel was bare but for this little lad
He hadn’t been chosen because he’s so sad
He didn’t have energy to move or to bark
He was shivering, timid and scared of the dark

There was a swish of the door and a voice rang through
That poor little puppy, his ears down and blue!
A man looked upon him and offered his hand
The puppy was frightened, the man was so grand!

He was all dressed in red and his beard was white
His cheeks were all rosy, his eyes were so bright!
The puppy got up and walked over to the chap
The man reached inside and pulled out him out through the gap

“Hollo little fella, last dog in the cold;
I have come to offer thee a place in my own family fold!”
The man’s voice was cheery, his cuddle was tight
The puppy forgot he was lonely this cold winter night

“My name is Santa Claus but you can call me dad
I have nine friendly reindeer my little, lively lad.
Santa took him outside to meet all the reindeer
By this time the puppy had nothing to fear!

“Meet Vixen and Cupid and my little runt Prancer
There’s Comet the grizzler, and over there, Dancer
There is the bold, daring Dasher and smelly old Dunder
All led by my Rudolph, my red-nosed boy wonder!

Santa sat Pup in the back of the sleigh by his side
And the next thing you know, he was off for a ride!
They travelled far and wide, delivering gifts everywhere
The puppy was excited and didn’t even care

By morn’s early light, they were back in the North Pole
Puppy was drinking his weight from a fresh water bowl
Mrs Claus was delighted with their new furry friend
Soon he became the greatest godsend

He visited elves and played with other friendly dogs
Walked in the parks and curled up by fire logs
He didn’t age beyond five due to the magic of St Nick
He was jumping for joy and he never got sick

He still lives in Lapland, his home now forever
He doesn’t mind the cold and the harshness of weather
He’s filled up with joy in his forever home
He’s free to explore, to wander, to roam

He has so much love and his future is bright
But remember the others on cold Winter’s night
The dogs in the kennels looking for someone to love
That don’t have a St Nick drop down from above
