Journey of Adolescence
As I stumble blindly through my teenage years
I hear voices cautioning me
I never listen.
Revelling in the delights of youth
It seems like Eternity belongs to me.
Youth means so many things:
A cloudless sky; An unspoiled beach;
The innocence of a pure love.
I tend to forget, in my glee
Those who are less fortunate than myself.
Yet, across the oceans
There is a different view of adolescence.
A youth in a poor village
Begs for food
For if he should stop
He would not survive another day.
In his language the word 'hope' does not exist
Third world poverty is all he knows
Yet, throughout his poor existence
He has never lost the ability to smile.
He looks at the same cloudless sunny sky with shining eyes
And he sees the whole world as beautiful.
