Sea of Despair

No-one knows how it feels
Washed out among the long, endless waves of loss 
Caught and churning in despair 
I feel as if my life has been washed to sea 

Caught and crashing on the rocks 
I hide my face from all I know and I knew 
Then my bitter struggle ceases 
And I become a statue unmoving 

Waves circle round me in a futile effort 
To bring me back to the shore 
If only they knew that I was lost forever 
And, gave me up to the sea 

Whenever a Ray of Light comes down here 
I feel it is brief and shallow here 
The warmth doesn't touch me at all here 
In this darkness I am trapped 

Whenever a kind word is spoken 
It feels like they don't really mean it 
They don't understand enough to comfort me 
Trapped in this world of pain 

I feel myself sinking fast 
The water is now covering my face whole 
All I love cannot save me 
Now that I've succumbed to this finality 

There is no world left for me 
I don't wish to return from these depths of pain 
Those who knew me in this life
